Why a Degree in Masters of Organizational Leadership

Aloysius Gonzaga was a descendant of a noble Renaissance family who entered the Society of Jesus in 1585. While attending to the sick and dying in plague-swept Rome, he died at the age of 23. In 1726, the Catholic Church declared him the patron saint of youth.

In the nineteenth century, during this efforts to bring a Christian message and education to the Pacific Northwest, the Italian Jesuit missionary, the Rev. Joseph Cataldo, S.J., laid plans for a mission school near the Spokane Falls in the eastern part of Washington Territory. From this grew the college he named in honor of St. Aloysius Gonzaga.

The college admitted its first students in 1887, two years before Washington became a state. A quarter of a century later, in 1912, the Board of Trustees established the School of Law at the enthusiastic urging of prominent members of the Washington State bench and bar. Then, in 1951, Gonzaga University School of Law was accredited by the American Bar Association.
