Benedictine University was founded in 1887 in Chicago as St. Procopius College and relocated to Lisle in 1901

and Benedictine University Ranking is considered to be among the top universities according to S. News & World Report's 2003.

Benedictine University was renamed Illinois Benedictine College in 1971. In response to community needs, the following programs were added: graduate, doctorate and adult learner programs. It became Benedictine University in 1996. Today, the University remains committed to providing a high-quality, catholic, liberal arts education for men and women. S. News & World Report's 2003 rankings listed B. University as one of the top universities and a best value in the Midwest Region. The magazine also ranked the school sixth in the region for campus diversity.

B. University is 25 miles west of Chicago, in suburban Lisle near Naperville, and is easily accessible from the city and suburbs via the interstate highway system. Metra's Burlington Northern train stops in Lisle and O'Hare International Airport is only a 30-minute drive away. In addition to the many social and cultural offerings of the Chicago metropolitan area, the University enjoys the proximity and use of Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the Morton Arboretum, a ski hill, riding stable and several golf courses.
